An overview of British literature from the Anglo Saxons to the late-eighteenth century in their historical and cultural contexts, with attention to the development of the English language. May include texts in Middle English. Selections may include sermons, chronicles, and letters as well as fiction, poetry, and drama. Provides a foundation for upper-level study in the discipline and is required for English majors. 3 Lecture hours.
