Title

Literature of Leadership

Description

A survey of major literary texts dealing with the theme of leadership. Differing examples and ideals of leadership are related to the philosophical assumptions and cultural values of the authors and civilizations represented by each work. Both advocacy and critique of these ideals are examined; contrasts among them emphasize the ethical implications of leaders' decisions. Topics include relationships among leadership, religion, and philosophy; leadership and technology; the role of coercion or political/economic power; and the potential conflicts of leadership and individual freedom. A recommended literature course for fulfillment of General Education or Bachelor of Arts degree requirements in literature, Arts and Humanities.
