Title
Augmented Reality
Description
Humans perceive reality through sensory channels; vision, acoustic, touch, olfactory and taste. Current computer, network and electronic technologies make it feasible and cost effective to augment this perception of reality, providing information about, in addition to or in place of, what the senses convey. This course introduces the area of augmented reality, AR, looking first at what you perceived reality tells and doesn't tell us, then at what we want to augment in that reality. It covers current hardware technologies used in AR and the software used to create and perform AR. Students will experience AR by building and testing AR applications. The course looks at several sectors of industry currently using and/or developing AR applications for their use, and at the future evolution of AR. Credit will not be earned if previously taken as CS 399 topics course. Prerequisite: CS 142 or CS 140 and CS 260, Grade of C or better. Offered: Spring.
