Description

A study of representative American film comedies from a variety of standpoints: generically (as manifestations of comic tradition); culturally (as examples of satire and social criticism); aesthetically (as products of cinematic and literary techniques); historically (as parts of an evolving tradition). Representative films may include works by Keaton, Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, W. C. Fields, Jerry Lewis, Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen and others. Fulfills General Education Humanities requirement but will not serve as literature elective. Prerequisite: EN 102 or EN 111.
